You can access your desktop’s environment (and have full accessibility) remotely from any location or electronic device (running Windows, Mac OS or Linux) that is connected to the Internet and supports a remote PC access software application.
How does it Work?
The whole remote PC process includes a client computer (i.e. any computer or mobile device) and a server computer (i.e. your computer at home or any other computer you want to control).
The remote desktop software connects the client computer with the server computer, and provides you full access to the server computer by transmitting your mouse and keyboard’s actions and commands. You can see the server computer and its components in full screen mode or in a window.
What are the Most Common Uses?
- Access a program you use frequently (i.e. Photoshop, Corel, Microsoft Excel, etc.) from any other computer or mobile device.
- Print your business documents while you’re drinking coffee at a café.
- Access any file, modify or drag and drop them to the device you’re currently using.
- Finish your designing project at home without worrying about copying files to external USB drives or uploading them to cloud services.
- Assist your parents remotely if they have trouble finding a document or accessing a certain program.
Is it really a Need?
Most computer software makes our life easier. The best question to ask yourself is, would you become more productive by using remote desktop software? Why would you buy it?
For every new software or service there is always a trial or a free version to download. If you are wondering why some are free and others come with a subscription, it’s based on the quality, features or kind of support they offer.
For example, if you use a free service, you won’t have full accessibility to all the features. On the other hand, if you buy a subscription from a good, reliable company, you’ll have full access and the kind of support you would need if you got stuck!
Most software or cloud companies offer free trials so you can “try before you buy” their products. Never buy a product or service before you try it. If they do not offer a free download / free trial for a few days, don’t even bother with the service. Could you imagine spending a substantial amount of money for something that doesn’t work, or doesn’t work for you? It would be really frustrating for me.
Where can I find more Information?
There are many websites on the web where you will find plenty of information. Another resource would be YouTube where many individuals or companies upload videos with reviews or ‘how to’ guides.
