My Personal Review of the Microsoft Office 2010 Home & Student

Freebies Just Don’t Cut It

When I bought my new computer, I was surprised to find that it only had a trial of word processing software. After the trial period, I wasn’t really interested in paying the big bucks for a package, so I tried a couple of different free options. The problem with freebies is that they aren’t always compatible with other computers so when I emailed my documents and spreadsheets they didn’t look right on the other end. The functionality was really limited. I knew I had to find something else, so I started my online search.

Easy Decisions

The beauty of Microsoft products is that there is something for everyone. They have software packages for pretty much every need. And anything you create with Microsoft Office can be saved in varied formats so that it can be read by others without sacrificing formatting or risking incompatibility issues. I need software that my kids and I can both use for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and note taking. Microsoft Office 2010 Home & Student has exactly what I need at a price I can afford.

Computer System Requirements

Every software package has minimum computer system requirements for running efficiently. For Microsoft Office 2010 Home & Student, Windows XP XP3, Vista, or Windows 7 operating system is needed. A processor of 500MHz or higher with 256 MB RAM or higher is also required. 1.5GB of hard disk space is needed, but part of this space can be freed up after the software is installed. For web apps, Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox are supported.

OneNote 2010 is a note taking organizational tool that works great for collaborations. This program can be used to work online with groups with real-time updates. Notebook organization helps maintain individual projects. The 2010 version includes new styles and formatting options, improved search functions, easy navigation, and the ability to link to files in Word, PowerPoint, or Internet Explorer.

Key Features
