While many people claim than purchasing an extended warranty on any product is an expensive waste, I can say from personal experience that is a must when dealing with computers. Once a manufacturer’s warranty expires, replacing components can often run into the hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. I have had to scrap 2 laptops that died not long after the manufacturer’s warranties had run out. Fixing them would have been too costly. If I had only spent a little extra money up front on a warranty, I would have saved myself a couple thousand dollars later on.
With that in mind, I’d like to take a look at the AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac Laptops 13 Inches and Below.
How Does the AppleCare Plan Work?
Portable Apple Computers 15 Inches and Above are covered under a separate AppleCare Protection Plan but every Mac comes with a one-year limited warranty and complimentary telephone technical support for 90 days from the date of purchase.
You can extend your service coverage to three years from the computer’s purchase date with the AppleCare Protection Program. Apple’s award-winning technical support experts will be available as often as you like to get your questions answered on anything from Apple hardware, Mac OS X, and Apple applications such as iLife and iWork. You can also get help connecting to printers and AirPort networks.
If you need repair service, Apple offers convenient service options around the world. Imagine the peace of mind you will have knowing that no matter where you are, you can get your Mac fixed.
You even have the option of mail-in repair for your Mac by using a prepaid shipping box provided by Apple.
- Global Repair – Parts and Labor
- Included accessories such as the power adapter
- Apple Memory (RAM)
- AirPort Express Base Station, AirPort Extreme Base Station, or Time Capsule
- MacBook Air SuperDrive (For MacBook Air and Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server only)
- Apple Display purchased with your Mac
It should be noted that the AppleCare Protection Plan can be purchased only while your Mac is still covered under the standard one-year limited warranty.
At the cost of about $220 from Amazon.com (or $110 per year of coverage) this is really a small investment to make in your 13 Inch Mac Laptop. The peace of mind it gives you will be well worth it. Click here for more details.
I’d like to hear from you. Do you normally buy extended warranties for computers? If so, was it a waste of money? If not, did you come to regret it?
